Islamabad: In a significant move to strengthen bilateral relations, Pakistan and Italy have agreed to intensify their cooperation to combat drug trafficking and human smuggling. This agreement was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Marilina Armelin, held today in Islamabad.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions focused on deepening collaboration in key areas of mutual concern, including measures to prevent illegal activities such as drug trafficking and human smuggling. Interior Minister Naqvi announced that a delegation from Italy’s Ministry of Interior is scheduled to visit Pakistan soon to engage further with Pakistani authorities and inspect the border areas to evaluate current measures and strategies.
During the meeting, Minister Naqvi emphasized that Pakistan would make no compromises on human smuggling and is committed to taking all necessary actions to curb this issue. He also highlighted the potential benefits of legal migration for skilled labor, which could help reduce human smuggling while allowing Italy to benefit from skilled Pakistani workers in various sectors.
This initiative marks a proactive step by both nations to address pressing global challenges collaboratively, aiming to enhance security and provide better opportunities for legal migration.
