Pakistan and Iran Discuss Response to Assassination of Ismail Haniyeh Ahead of OIC Meeting

Islamabad: In a significant diplomatic exchange, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Pakistan, Senator Ishaq Dar, engaged in a telephone conversation with Acting Foreign Minister of Iran, Ali Bagehri Kani, on the recent assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. The discussion focused on the shared distress over the incident and the forthcoming Extraordinary Meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Foreign Ministers.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Acting Foreign Minister Kani expressed Iran’s profound dismay over the assassination, which occurred during the inauguration of the Iranian President. He also invited Pakistan to participate in the upcoming OIC meeting, specifically convened to address this crisis.

Senator Dar reiterated Pakistan’s condemnation of the assassination, highlighting unanimous disapproval from the National Assembly of Pakistan and firm support from the Prime Minister. He confirmed Pakistan’s commitment to actively participating in the OIC meeting, emphasizing the need for a unified response to the violation of international norms represented by the assassination.
