Islamabad: Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, met with the Iranian Ambassador to discuss enhancing bilateral agricultural trade and cooperation. The meeting highlighted opportunities for Pakistan to export rice, mangoes, and halal meat to Iran, aiming to meet the country’s rising demand.
According to a statement by Press Information Department, both parties addressed the importance of streamlining plant quarantine and sanitary and phytosanitary measures to facilitate smoother trade. The Federal Minister urged Iran to expedite the Pest Risk Analysis dossier for maize, submitted by Pakistan earlier this year.
The discussions also focused on mutual capacity building in agricultural research, particularly in high-value crops such as saffron, pistachios, and almonds. There was further dialogue on the use of renewable energy in agriculture and harmonizing protocols to enable export of processed poultry and other value-added products from Pakistan to Iran.
The meeting concluded with a strong commitment from both sides to foster a sustainable trade partnership, highlighting the potential benefits for both countries in strengthening agricultural ties.
