Pakistan and India Exchange Lists of Prisoners Amid Ongoing Diplomatic Protocol


Islamabad: Pakistan and India conducted a simultaneous exchange of lists detailing prisoners held in each other’s custody, adhering to the Consular Access Agreement of 2008. This biannual event, which occurs on January 1 and July 1, reflects ongoing diplomatic efforts between the neighboring countries.



According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistan provided a list comprising 266 Indian prisoners, including 49 civilians and 217 fishermen, to the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Concurrently, India submitted a list identifying 462 Pakistani prisoners, with 381 civilians and 81 fishermen, to Pakistan’s High Commission in New Delhi.



The Government of Pakistan has also called upon India to expedite the release and repatriation of 52 civilian prisoners and 56 fishermen who have completed their sentences and whose national status has been confirmed. Additionally, Pakistan urged India to ensure the safety and well-being of all Pakistani prisoners awaiting release.
