Islamabad: Pakistan and India have once again exchanged lists of their respective nuclear installations and facilities, a tradition upheld since 1992 under the Agreement on Prohibition of Attacks against Nuclear Installations and Facilities. This annual exchange took place today, underscoring a mutual commitment to transparency and confidence-building between the two nations.
According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the list of nuclear installations and facilities in Pakistan was officially handed over to a representative of the Indian High Commission at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad. Concurrently, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs delivered the list of India’s nuclear installations and facilities to a representative of the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi.
The agreement, signed on December 31, 1988, mandates that both countries inform each other of their nuclear installations and facilities on January 1st each year. It came into force on January 27, 1991, and the first exchange took place on January 1, 1992. This practice is part of a broader effort to enhance trust and prevent misunderstandings related to nuclear facilities between the two neighboring countries.
