Pakistan and France Strengthen Ties in Energy and Mining Amid Regional Challenges


Islamabad: Federal Minister for Petroleum, Mr. Ali Pervaiz Malik, engaged in discussions with H.E. Mr. Nicolas Galey, Ambassador of France to Pakistan, focusing on regional developments, energy security, and enhancing bilateral cooperation in the energy and mining sectors. The meeting underscored the commitment of both nations to bolster collaboration amidst the changing regional landscape.



According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Galey commended Pakistan for effectively managing petroleum supply challenges, highlighting the country’s ability to maintain fuel availability and stability despite regional market volatility. The Ambassador praised Pakistan’s proactive approach, noting the absence of disruptions that affected other South Asian countries.



Federal Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik expressed gratitude for the Ambassador’s recognition and outlined Pakistan’s strategy to ensure continuous petroleum product supply, emphasizing the importance of coordinated governmental responses. He explained that the government prioritized supply continuity, protecting the supply chain’s liquidity while avoiding significant price shocks.



Minister Malik also mentioned the establishment of an effective mechanism for inter-ministerial decision-making by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, which facilitated prompt responses to changing supply dynamics. Diplomatic efforts by Pakistan’s leadership were highlighted as crucial in securing alternative petroleum supplies during critical periods.



The Minister assured that Pakistan had managed to maintain supply stability without accumulating circular debt and is working on targeted subsidies to support vulnerable segments of society. Ambassador Galey reaffirmed the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and France, noting expanded energy cooperation and increased interest from French companies in Pakistan’s mining sector. He expressed optimism about French participation in the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum, scheduled for November.



Both parties reiterated their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation and exploring new opportunities in energy security, mineral development, and sustainable economic growth.
