Islamabad: The fifth round of the Pakistan-European Union Dialogue on Non-Proliferation and Disarmament took place in Islamabad, with both parties discussing international and regional security issues. The June 12 meeting focused on disarmament and non-proliferation, particularly in relation to the United Nations General Assembly’s First Committee, the Conference on Disarmament, and key international conventions such as the Biological Weapons Convention and the Chemical Weapons Convention.
The dialogue also examined recent trends in export controls and the impact of emerging technologies on global security. Pakistani Ambassador Tahir Andrabi and EU Ambassador Stephan Klement led their respective delegations in the discussions.
Both sides emphasized the dialogue’s importance within the broader Pakistan-EU engagement, recognizing it as a crucial platform for addressing security, stability, arms control, disarmament, and non-proliferation.
The meeting concluded with an agreement to hold the sixth round of talks in Brussels in 2026, underscoring the ongoing commitment to these critical issues.
