Islamabad: Pakistan and Ethiopia have committed to strengthening their agricultural cooperation, focusing on food security and economic growth. The agreement was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for National Food Security and Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, and Ethiopian Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula in the capital.
The Minister proposed the creation of a Joint Working Group on Agriculture and Livestock to formalize dialogue and collaboration between the two nations. This initiative aims to improve coordination and expand agricultural trade.
A key focus of the discussion was the alignment of sanitary and phytosanitary standards. Such alignment is expected to enhance trade opportunities and unlock agricultural potential between Pakistan and Ethiopia.
Pakistan expressed interest in importing Ethiopian cotton to diversify its agricultural imports and bolster its textile industry. This move is seen as a step towards strengthening Pakistan’s economic ties with Ethiopia.
Ambassador Dr. Jemal Beker Abdula praised Pakistan’s vision and highlighted the importance of deeper cooperation in the agriculture sector. Both countries see this partnership as a means to mutual economic benefit and enhanced food security.
