Islamabad: Pakistan and Egypt have agreed to enhance their cooperation in the maritime and industrial sectors, with a focus on expanding joint ventures and boosting their blue economies. The decision, aimed at strengthening regional trade, was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs, Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, and Egypt’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Dr. Ihab Mohamed Abdelhamid Hassan.
The meeting emphasized the commitment of both countries to bolster economic and maritime ties. Discussions centered around potential collaborations in port development, shipping, logistics, and industrial ventures, highlighting the growing significance of the blue economy as a driver for sustainable growth.
Minister Chaudhry expressed Pakistan’s determination to enhance regional connectivity through a comprehensive network of roads, railways, and sea routes. He mentioned ongoing efforts to establish stronger links with Central Asian states and East African countries and noted the potential for increased maritime connectivity with Egypt.
As part of Pakistan’s broader economic diplomacy strategy, the minister suggested the establishment of “Pakistan Houses” in Africa, Central Asia, and Egypt. These centers would aim to promote trade, investment, and business partnerships. Chaudhry also expressed openness to welcoming similar initiatives from other countries to foster mutual economic collaboration.
Ambassador Hassan welcomed Pakistan’s initiatives, offering Egypt’s expertise in maritime management, particularly in the operation of the Suez Canal’s free zones. He proposed assisting Pakistan in developing similar frameworks and joint ventures in its maritime sector.
Moreover, Ambassador Hassan commended the quality of Pakistani exports such as spices, pharmaceuticals, leather goods, wooden crafts, and rice. He expressed optimism that bilateral trade would continue to expand across various sectors.
Both parties concurred that enhanced cooperation in maritime and industrial development could strengthen economic relations and promote greater regional integration across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East.
