Pakistan and China Strengthen Ties, Accelerate Key Infrastructure Projects

Islamabad, Pakistan and China have pledged to expedite the development of significant infrastructure projects, including the ML-1 railway line, Gwadar Port, and the Karakoram Highway’s Phase-2 realignment. This commitment was articulated by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar during a joint news conference with his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, in Beijing.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Dar highlighted the deepened cooperation across multiple sectors such as agriculture, mining, energy, IT, and industry, under the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC). Both countries have agreed on the importance of the Karakoram Highway as a critical link for geographic connectivity and discussed initiating all-weather operations at the Khunjrab-Sost border crossing soon.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the strategic partnership and mutual support on core issues, including territorial integrity and regional peace. He expressed gratitude for China’s support, especially regarding the Jammu and Kashmir dispute. Dar also addressed regional security concerns, particularly the threats emanating from terrorist groups in Afghanistan, urging the Afghan interim government to take action.

Dar concluded by reiterating Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding Chinese nationals and interests within its borders, reflecting on the recent martyrdom of Chinese and Pakistani individuals in a terrorist attack. He confirmed that Pakistan would continue its efforts to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure the safety of Chinese personnel and projects in the country.
