Islamabad: In a significant step towards bolstering bilateral relations, Pakistan and China have committed to deepening their cooperation in counter-terrorism, cross-border security, and anti-smuggling efforts. This agreement emerged from a productive meeting between Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and the visiting Chinese delegation led by Minister for Political and Legal Affairs Chen Mingguo.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussions, which took place in Islamabad, paved the way for several collaborative initiatives. These include proposed joint exercises between police and paramilitary forces, potentially in Gilgit-Baltistan or Xinjiang, and specialized training for Gilgit-Baltistan police at the Xinjiang Police Academy. These efforts aim to enhance the capabilities of law enforcement agencies in both regions, focusing on shared security challenges.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to eradicating smuggling of narcotics, arms, and other illicit goods as a priority in their national security agenda. On the other side, Minister Chen Mingguo expressed China’s keen interest in strengthening ties with Pakistan across multiple sectors, underscoring the importance of security and economic stability in the relationship.
The agreement marks a continuation of the long-standing partnership between the two nations, highlighting their mutual interests in maintaining regional security and fostering economic growth through collaborative endeavors.
