Pakistan and China Inaugurate New Gwadar International Airport Virtually

Islamabad: In a significant advancement for regional connectivity, the New Gwadar International Airport was inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan and Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The new facility is seen as a crucial step in transforming Gwadar into a regional hub and boosting the economy of Pakistan.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, during the ceremony, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the airport as a symbol of China’s commitment to Pakistan’s economic development. He emphasized that this project is not only a testament to the bilateral cooperation between the nations but also a cornerstone in promoting the development of Pakistan’s less developed areas.

The virtual event also witnessed the exchange of several Memorandums of Understanding and agreements spanning various sectors, including industry, agriculture, and commerce, which are expected to further cement the strategic partnership between the two countries. Moreover, agreements on exporting animal meat to China, constructing joint laboratories, and implementing the Smart Classroom Project were signed, alongside protocols and agreements in other critical areas such as information and communication, water conservancy, and security cooperation.

Premier Li expressed China’s ongoing commitment to working with Pakistan under the shared principle of mutual benefit and collective development. He commended the efforts of both Pakistani and Chinese engineers and workers in constructing the airport, which took five years to complete and is anticipated to greatly enhance the connectivity within the Gwadar region.
