Pakistan and China Celebrate 75 Years of Diplomatic Relations and Economic Cooperation

Islamabad: President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif marked the 75th anniversary of the People’s Republic of China with a celebration in Islamabad, highlighting the deep economic and diplomatic ties between the two nations. The leaders used this occasion to reaffirm their commitment to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) as a vital component of their bilateral cooperation, emphasizing its role in regional connectivity and prosperity.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, President Zardari delivered a speech at the reception where he reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to working alongside China to foster shared prosperity and ensure peace and stability globally. He commended the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, stating that its high-quality development is crucial for unlocking greater benefits for the people of both nations, as well as enhancing regional connectivity and prosperity.

President Zardari further reflected on October 1st as a symbol of a resilient and unified China, praising the Chinese people’s heroic efforts under the Communist Party’s leadership. He highlighted the transformation of the Pakistan-China relationship into an All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership, which he described as a paradigm of inter-state relations and a source of mutual inspiration and strength.

In his address, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared his heartfelt congratulations to China, recalling his visit in June and the warm reception he received. He described the unbreakable bond between the two nations, emphasizing the friendship’s significance as being “higher than the Himalayas and deeper than the deepest ocean.”

Prime Minister Sharif expressed gratitude for China’s support, particularly during challenging times such as meeting the IMF’s conditions. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for China on international issues including Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Looking ahead, the Prime Minister announced the commencement of the second phase of the CPEC, which promises extensive bilateral cooperation in agriculture, information technology, and mining, among other sectors. He also expressed eagerness for the upcoming visit of the Chinese Premier to Pakistan, which is expected to further deepen the collaboration between the two countries.
