Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic encounter today, Pakistan and Bahrain jointly called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the prompt delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. This appeal was made during a meeting between Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and the Commander of the National Guard of the Kingdom of Bahrain, General Sheikh Mohammad Bin Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussion highlighted the deep-rooted brotherly relations and strong defence cooperation between Pakistan and Bahrain. General Sheikh Mohammad conveyed the greetings of the King of Bahrain, Sheikh Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Sheikh Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, to Prime Minister Sharif, who reciprocated with thanks and a warm welcome.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed optimism about the potential for enhanced bilateral trade once the Pakistan-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Free Trade Agreement is enacted, suggesting that the current trade volume of one billion dollars per annum could significantly increase. He also spotlighted the King Hamad Nursing Hospital, a landmark project in Islamabad gifted by the King of Bahrain to the Pakistani people, as a symbol of the strong ties between the two nations.
Reflecting on the visit of the King of Bahrain in 2014, Prime Minister Sharif indicated Pakistan’s eagerness to host the Bahraini monarch again. Additionally, General Sheikh Mohammed extended an invitation to Prime Minister Sharif for an official visit to Bahrain, further cementing the bilateral relationship and shared interests, including their unified stance on the Gaza situation.
