Pakistan and Azerbaijan Commit to Joint Climate Action Initiatives.


Islamabad: The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Pakistan, H.E. Khazar Farhadov, called on Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam, at her office to discuss preparations for the upcoming COP29 summit. The meeting highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts for effective climate action.



According to Press Information Department, Ms. Alam outlined Pakistan’s ongoing efforts in preparation for COP29, emphasizing the significance of building international consensus on key climate issues and enhancing the country’s climate action plans. She stated that Pakistan’s participation in COP29 aims to ensure national interests are represented and to strengthen its position within the global climate discourse. Ms. Alam noted that Pakistan is actively working towards meeting its emission reduction targets as part of its nationally determined contributions, while also highlighting the necessity for international support in achieving sustainable development goals related to climate change.



The Coordinator to the Prime Minister underscored the critical role of developed countries in fulfilling their financial commitments to assist developing nations in their climate mitigation and adaptation efforts. She pointed out that Pakistan has been making strides in transitioning to renewable energy, focusing on solar and wind power, and plans to showcase its renewable energy initiatives at COP29.



The Ambassador of Azerbaijan expressed his country’s strong commitment to enhancing cooperation with Pakistan, particularly in the realm of climate action. He emphasized the importance of closer bilateral ties in sustainable development, climate change, and regional cooperation. The upcoming COP29 summit presents a crucial opportunity for both nations to collaborate and advance their mutual interests in these areas.
