Pakistan and Australia Agree to Collaborate on Water Security


Islamabad, PM’s Coordinator on Climate Change and Environmental Coordination met with Australian High Commissioner H.E. Neil Hawkins today at her office. The two sides discussed a range of bilateral issues of mutual interest, including COP29, water security, forest fires, climate resilience, community projects, GLOFIII, and the Climate Change Authority.



According to Press Information Department, both parties agreed to closely collaborate on water security and agriculture, with Australia providing technical assistance to Pakistan for water security management. The PM’s Coordinator emphasized that water security is Pakistan’s most critical development challenge and that sustainable management of water is essential for sustainable development.



She highlighted the GLOFIII project, which aims to reduce flood risks in northern areas and provide substantial water reservoirs for water-scarce districts. H.E. Neil Hawkins reiterated Australia’s commitment to close collaboration with Pakistan, particularly in climate change and gender initiatives. The High Commissioner also presented a coffee table book, “Australian Journey-Our Country,” to the PM’s aide. Both sides agreed on ongoing engagements to further deepen their ties in climate initiatives. The meeting was marked by traditional warmth, understanding, and trust.
