Islamabad: A high-level meeting between Pakistan and a delegation of ASEAN Ambassadors and High Commissioners has opened new avenues for investment and economic collaboration. Federal Minister for Board of Investment, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, hosted the meeting in Islamabad, emphasizing the strategic importance of ASEAN nations as key partners for Pakistan.
The delegation, led by Thai Ambassador Rongvudhi Virabutr, included representatives from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Myanmar, and Brunei. The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s Special Economic Zones and investment-friendly policies aimed at fostering industrial growth and attracting foreign direct investment.
ASEAN countries expressed interest in sectors such as tourism, food, and other emerging industries. Minister Sheikh outlined incentives in IT, infrastructure, textile, and mining to attract investments. The discussions focused on strengthening trade ties, improving connectivity, and facilitating smoother investment procedures.
ASEAN representatives welcomed Pakistan’s policies and showed interest in development initiatives promoting regional integration. Minister Sheikh reiterated Pakistan’s focus on an export-led growth economy under Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s leadership.
Secretary Jamil Ahmad Qureshi of the Board of Investment emphasized efforts to promote a smooth investment environment. The meeting concluded with a commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation and regional development, with optimism about future opportunities and continued dialogue for actionable initiatives.
