Pakistan always supports a united, peaceful and stable Afghanistan: PM

Islamabad, July 18, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prime Minister Imran Khan has stressed that instability and conflict in Afghanistan are not in Pakistan’s interest and Pakistan calls for immediate reduction in violence.

Talking to Afghan President Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of International Conference on “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity, Challenges and Opportunities” in Tashkent on Friday,

He highlighted that Pakistan has always supported a united, peaceful and stable Afghanistan. He reiterated Pakistan’s consistent support to the Afghan peace process, highlighting that Pakistan has consistently emphasized that there is no military solution to the Afghan conflict.

Imran Khan said Pakistan will continue its efforts to urge all parties to engage constructively and secure an inclusive, broad-based and comprehensive political solution.

It was also emphasized that imposition of a government by force will not lead to the resolution of Afghan conflict and a negotiated political settlement among the Afghan sides was the only way forward.

The meeting agreed to further enhance bilateral relations and to undertake necessary measures through mutual consultations to evolve bilateral mechanism to address each other’s concerns in the security arena. The meeting was stressed that negative statements from Afghan side vitiated the environment and there was a need to build trust. They also exchanged views focused on Afghan peace process and Pakistan-Afghanistan relations. The meeting was held in a constructive atmosphere. The two leaders agreed to remain in contact.
