Islamabad, The US Library of Congress has recognized the Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education (PAGE) for its exemplary practices in literacy programming, honoring the organization as a Successful Practices Honoree in the 2023 Literacy Awards Program.
According to a news release by Embassy of Pakistan Washington DC, Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education is a leading organization championing gender equity in areas of education, employment, rights, and leadership in Pakistan. Established in 2014, PAGE has been instrumental in offering quality educational and leadership opportunities to the country’s female population.
The news came as Fajer Pasha, Executive Director of the Pakistan Alliance for Girls Education, met Ambassador Masood Khan at the Chancery. The Ambassador extended his heartfelt congratulations to Ms. Pasha and lauded the PAGE team for their significant role in enhancing literacy in the nation.
In her remarks, Ms. Pasha voiced her gratitude and mentioned the recognition as a testament to the unwavering dedication of the PAGE team. She highlighted the consistent support from the Pakistani government and its people towards the broader objective of education. She further informed the Ambassador about PAGE’s notable recognitions, including accolades from UNESCO and a Global Award for Girls’ and Women’s Education 2023 from the Government of China.
Ambassador Khan underscored the Pakistan Government’s commitment to the education sector, particularly the education of girls. He emphasized ongoing endeavors to foster education, especially in remote parts of the country. The Ambassador also seized the opportunity to advocate for increased awareness about educational opportunities available for Pakistani girls in the US.
Touching upon the bilateral relations between Pakistan and the US, Ambassador Khan acknowledged the US government’s continuous backing of the education sector in Pakistan. He cited that over 8,000 Pakistani students embarked on their educational journeys in the US last year, marking a 17% surge from the previous year. Expressing optimism, he mentioned the aspiration to see this figure double in the future, with positive indications from the US government.
Concluding the meeting, Ambassador Khan conveyed his best wishes to PAGE and reassured them of his unwavering support.
