Islamabad: Pakistan Air Force Day is being observed today, commemorating the valor of air defenders during the September 1965 conflict with India. The day honors the pivotal moments and achievements of Pakistani pilots who played a crucial role in defending the country’s airspace.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the 1965 war showcased the skill and bravery of Pakistani pilots who, despite limited resources, not only thwarted Indian air attacks but also inflicted a significant defeat on their adversary. The pilots’ exceptional aerial combat skills and steadfast courage were highlighted during the conflict.
One of the most notable incidents from the war was the achievement of PAF AC Muhammad Mahmood Alam, also known as M. M. Alam. He is celebrated for shooting down five Indian Air Force Hawker Hunter Mk. 56 fighters in less than a minute, a feat that has become a legendary example of prowess and efficiency in air warfare.
