Pakistan Aims to Strengthen Bilateral Ties with the United Kingdom

Islamabad, In a significant diplomatic engagement, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has articulated a keen interest in fortifying bilateral relations with the United Kingdom across various sectors, including trade, investment, and climate change. His discussions with British High Commissioner Jane Marriott in Islamabad have set a tone of mutual interest and cooperation between the two nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Prime Minister emphasized the need to deepen trade and investment ties and foster greater people-to-people contact. He advocated for the resumption of Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) flights to the UK, highlighting the move as beneficial for the substantial Pakistani diaspora in the UK and for bolstering bilateral linkages.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Sharif highlighted the historical and cooperative relationship between Pakistan and the UK, expressing a desire to advance this partnership through the early conclusion of the Enhanced Strategic Partnership agreement. He also acknowledged the goodwill messages from British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Foreign Secretary Lord David Cameron, reaffirming his intention to work closely with UK leadership to enhance mutual relations.

Furthermore, Prime Minister Sharif extended his well-wishes to King Charles III, hoping for his swift recovery and anticipating a state visit to Pakistan when circumstances allow. The engagement underlines Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its international alliances, particularly with the UK, across a spectrum of crucial areas for mutual benefit.
