Islamabad: In a significant move to enhance the gemstone sector, the Prime Minister’s Steering Committee for Gemstones convened an important session under the leadership of Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, aimed at establishing state-of-the-art facilities and elevating the industry’s status within the national economy.
According to Press Information Department, the meeting focused on improving the exploration, processing, and marketing of precious stones in Pakistan. The committee discussed various challenges within the sector and engaged with key stakeholders from reputable private institutions to gather insights and suggestions. The dialogue underscored the necessity for advanced gemstone cutting, certification, and laboratory services to boost the sector’s growth and ensure its products reach global markets effectively.
Federal Minister Abdul Aleem Khan affirmed the government’s commitment to resolving these issues and considered granting industrial status to the gems and stones sector. Additionally, Federal Minister for Petroleum Musadaq Malik emphasized the importance of involving all related institutions in crafting a comprehensive solution to the sector’s challenges.
The next meeting is set to include a wider array of stakeholders to finalize recommendations, promising a structured approach to harnessing Pakistan’s rich mineral resources for economic prosperity. The participants from the private sector, expressing their support for the government’s initiative, committed to collaborating closely on the development and implementation of a new gemstone policy.
