Pakistan Aims to Boost Regional Connectivity, Hosting Conference Later this Year

Bishkek, Pakistan has expressed its commitment to bolster regional prosperity through transport connectivity, with plans in motion to host a significant conference on the subject this year. This announcement came from Foreign Minister Jalil Abbas Jilani during his address to the Council of Heads of Government of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

According to a news release by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Jilani highlighted the pivotal role the SCO Business Council and Inter Bank Association can assume in nurturing economic and trade ties among the SCO nations. Emphasizing Pakistan’s position as the succeeding chair of SCO, he assured that the country would continue endorsing the established mechanisms.

Speaking on Pakistan’s dedication to the “Shanghai spirit,” Jilani expressed that it embodies mutual trust, respect, and the aspiration for joint prosperity and growth. As the country assumes the Chairmanship of the Council of Heads of Government, critical domains like connectivity, transportation links, and addressing climate change would receive paramount attention.

Furthermore, Jilani articulated that sustainable economic growth hinges on enduring peace and stability in Afghanistan and underscored the potential role the SCO can fulfill towards achieving this stability. He also emphasized Pakistan’s intent to amplify collaboration in areas such as education and poverty eradication.

Addressing the looming concerns of climate-induced calamities, the Foreign Minister emphasized that such threats challenge humanity’s very existence, necessitating worldwide solidarity and collaboration.
