Pakistan Aims to Boost Its Energy Conservation Ranking, Says Power Minister

Islamabad, In a significant move towards sustainable energy utilization, Minister for Power Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari has called on the National Energy Efficiency and Conservation Authority (NEECA) to devise and submit strategies aimed at improving Pakistan’s standing in global energy conservation rankings. The directive was issued during a meeting with a delegation from NEECA, led by its Managing Director, Sardar Mohazzam, emphasizing the urgency of adopting more efficient energy practices.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the discussion with NEECA focused on the critical need to replace inefficient and conventional electric fans, which are a significant drain on the country’s energy resources. The Minister urged immediate collaboration with the Pakistan Electric Fan Manufacturers Association to implement effective measures in this area.

Additionally, in a separate meeting with the chairman of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), the Minister for Power stressed the importance of enhancing NEPRA’s capacity. This would ensure the regulatory body is well-equipped to manage the privatization of distribution companies (discos) or to oversee long-term concessions, with the ultimate goal of delivering superior service to consumers. The NEPRA chairman assured that steps would be taken to provide maximum relief to consumers, in line with government directives.

These meetings underscore the government’s commitment to not only improving energy efficiency within Pakistan but also to elevating the country’s profile on the international stage as a leader in energy conservation.
