Faisalabad: Following the success of the “Banyan Al-Marsous” operation, Pakistan is set to unveil an industrial policy aimed at placing the country among the world’s top 20 economies. Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, announced this initiative while representing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the 50th Golden Jubilee celebrations of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Khan communicated the government’s commitment to addressing the industrial challenges faced by Faisalabad, a key economic hub. Rehan Naseem Bharadah, President of the Chamber, expressed gratitude for Khan’s presence at the milestone event, underscoring the necessity of economic stabilization on firm grounds post-operation.
Bharadah lauded the leadership of Prime Minister Sharif and the military chiefs for their roles in what he termed a significant triumph. He also highlighted several industry-related issues, including the need for better business facilities and proposed infrastructure projects such as a modern airport and a cargo complex to bolster Faisalabad’s business environment.
He further articulated the demand for expanding the Pindi Bhattian-Faisalabad motorway and revising the DPL definition under the 1934 Act to exclude imported chemicals. In addition, he called for tax system reforms and the establishment of an IT university in line with the Prime Minister’s vision.
Other demands included setting up a Hajj camp in Faisalabad, initiating direct Hajj flights, and increasing daily flights to Karachi. Former President Mian Muhammad Idris urged the cessation of business harassment by departments, advocating for a licensing system as a preventive measure.
The event also saw participation from local business figures and concluded with ceremonial activities, including a cake-cutting and shield presentations to honor achievements.
