Pakistan Advocates Peace and Development at China-South Asia Forum


Kunming: Pakistan showcased its commitment to regional cooperation and development at the 6th China-South Asia Cooperation Forum held in Kunming. Ambassador Imran Ahmed Siddiqui, serving as Additional Secretary for the Asia-Pacific, addressed attendees under the theme “Join Hands for Open and Inclusive Development.”



The Ambassador emphasized Pakistan’s dedication to multilateralism, guided by the United Nations Charter, highlighting the interconnectedness of peace and development as essential for regional stability. Siddiqui commended China’s leadership role in organizing the forum, acknowledging the transformative impact of the Belt and Road Initiative, particularly the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.



Siddiqui presented Pakistan’s development vision, emphasizing regional connectivity, sustainable marine resource use, climate resilience, and technological innovation. He stressed the importance of addressing longstanding disputes in occupied territories to achieve lasting peace, advocating for the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence as a framework for regional cooperation.



The Ambassador highlighted the significance of emerging technologies like digital infrastructure and artificial intelligence for South Asia’s progress. He called for coordinated efforts in climate change mitigation, disaster preparedness, and the management of shared water resources, cautioning against unilateral actions to control water resources.



Siddiqui proposed the creation of a China-South Asia Development Forum, which would function as a high-level platform to foster cooperation in key areas, aiming to drive shared prosperity and inclusive development across the region.
