Geneva: Access to water is a fundamental component of human dignity and the right to life, Pakistan emphasized at the United Nations Human Rights Council. Representing a cross-regional coalition, Pakistan underscored the importance of water access in the realization of various human rights.
According to Radio Pakistan, Bilal Ahmad, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative in Geneva, highlighted in his statement that water access is crucial for achieving an adequate standard of living, health, drinking water, sanitation, and food security. He also pointed out its role in promoting gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls.
The envoy noted that in the pact for the future, states have committed to preventing water scarcity and ensuring the sustainable management of clean and safe water, sanitation, and hygiene. This commitment includes implementing effective policies to guarantee these resources for all.
