Pakistan Advocates for Enhanced Infrastructure Connectivity at the UN

New York, At a session during the United Nations General Assembly’s Sustainability Week, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Munir Akram, emphasized the need for enhanced infrastructure connectivity. This initiative aims to bolster global resilience and advance sustainable development, with a focus on aiding developing nations.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Akram, serving as co-chair of the Group of Friends of Sustainable Infrastructure Investment, articulated that achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals by 2030, along with climate objectives, necessitates a substantial shift towards sustainable infrastructure. This includes sectors such as energy, transport, housing, communications, and industrial and agricultural production and consumption. He noted that most developing countries lack the public funds required for such infrastructure projects and struggle to attract adequate private investment. Akram advocated for the mobilization of more considerable concessional finance to improve credit quality and encourage private sector investment in infrastructure within these countries.
