Islamabad, During the General Debate at the Financing for Development Forum (FFD) at the United Nations headquarters in New York, Pakistan highlighted the pressing need for global action to address increasing inequality and the resurgence of poverty.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Deputy Permanent Representative of Pakistan to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, delivered a statement emphasizing the urgency of meeting the commitments made under the 2030 Agenda and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda. Ambassador Jadoon pointed out that over 150 million people have recently fallen back into poverty, underscoring the critical need for international collaboration to reverse these trends.
Ambassador Jadoon criticized the lack of political will to implement known solutions, citing the failure to meet the 0.7% Official Development Assistance (ODA) target and to mobilize the promised $100 billion annually for climate finance as significant shortcomings. Looking forward to the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development in Spain next year, he expressed hope for the event to foster renewed trust between the Global North and South.
The deputy envoy also confirmed Pakistan’s active participation in the preparatory process for the upcoming conference, aiming to advocate for a development financing architecture that is more equitable and attuned to the needs of developing nations.
