Pakistan Advocates for Enhanced Global Cooperation at the Third South Summit of G-77 and China in Uganda

Kampala, Ambassador Syed Haider Shah, Additional Foreign Secretary (United Nations) of Pakistan, presented the country’s national statement at the Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China. The summit, taking place in Kampala, Uganda, focused on critical global issues, including sustainable development and climate change.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Shah emphasized the need for enhanced international cooperation, particularly among nations of the Global South, to achieve sustainable development goals (SDGs) and meet climate targets. He stressed the importance of developed countries fulfilling their historical commitments and providing support to the Global South in attaining these goals.

In his address, Ambassador Shah supported the United Nations Secretary-General’s call for providing adequate financial resources for the recently operationalized Loss and Damage fund. This fund is crucial for countries adversely affected by climate change. He highlighted the necessity for the G-77 and China to work together in establishing a more equitable and just international order, including reforming the international financial architecture to make it more representative of and responsive to the needs of developing countries.

The Additional Foreign Secretary also underscored the importance of unity and solidarity among developing countries. He emphasized that this unity is essential to effectively confront common challenges that threaten global peace and development.

The Third South Summit of the Group of 77 and China serves as a significant platform for developing nations to collaborate on addressing pressing global issues, share perspectives, and formulate strategies for a more sustainable and equitable future.
