Pakistan Accuses India of Using Intimidation Tactics in Kashmir at OIC Meeting

Yaounde: In a recent gathering at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi conveyed concerns over India’s methods in the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir. He alleged that India is attempting to cement its control by instilling fear and intimidation among the local population.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the issues were raised during the two-day OIC Council of Foreign Ministers meeting held in Cameroon. Qazi, leading a delegation, took the opportunity to address the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, where he detailed the situation following significant political and administrative shifts initiated by the Indian government in 2019.

The meeting, chaired by OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha, heard Qazi outline how the revocation of Kashmir’s special constitutional status by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration was perceived as a move to strengthen India’s hold on the territory. This action, he stated, was in direct violation of existing United Nations Security Council resolutions.

During his address, Qazi called on India to release all political prisoners and to remove restrictions imposed on political parties within the region. These measures are part of India’s strategy to suppress any form of dissent and maintain dominance in the area.

Furthermore, the Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir, during this meeting, unanimously adopted a joint communique. It emphasized that lasting peace and stability in South Asia hinge on the resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the UN Security Council resolutions.
