Packaged Chips Largely Unpopular in Pakistan, Survey Finds

ISLAMABAD: A recent survey by Gallup and Gilani Pakistan revealed that packaged chips are not a staple in the diets of most Pakistanis, with 62 percent of respondents reporting no consumption of the snack over the past year. Among those who do indulge, the majority reported only infrequent use.

The survey, conducted with a nationally representative sample of 724 adult men and women from various regions across Pakistan, asked participants if they had consumed packaged chips in the last year. Results showed that only 27 percent had eaten the snack, whereas a significant 62 percent had not, and 11 percent either did not know or chose not to respond.

Of those who did consume packaged chips, 52 percent reported occasional consumption, and 35 percent indicated very rare consumption. This data suggests that even among consumers, packaged chips are not a regular part of their diet.

The study, carried out from April 16 to April 30, 2025, employed computer-assisted telephonic interviews (CATI) to gather data. The results are considered reliable within a margin of error of ± 2-3 percent at a 95 percent confidence level.

The findings underscore a dietary trend in Pakistan that leans away from packaged snacks like chips, pointing to a potential area of interest for food industry stakeholders looking to understand consumer behavior in the region.
