P3A Advances Infrastructure Development Through Public-Private Partnerships


Islamabad, The Public Private Partnership Authority (P3A) held its 34th Board of Directors meeting on March 26th, 2024, focusing on leveraging public-private partnerships (PPPs) to spearhead infrastructure development and enhance public welfare in Pakistan. Chaired by Dr. Jehanzeb Khan, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission and Vice Chairperson of the Board, the session underscored the strategic importance of PPPs in driving forward the country’s infrastructure projects.



According to Press Information Department, the meeting was marked by significant decisions, including the approval of the National University of Medical Sciences’ (NUMS) request to collaborate with an International Financial Institution (IFI) for the Medical City Project. This ambitious initiative aims to establish a state-of-the-art Medical City in Islamabad’s Sector I-17, featuring a 1600-bed hospital alongside specialized research institutes to elevate the standards of medical education, research, and patient care in Pakistan.



The session welcomed notable attendees such as Mr. Awais Manzur Sumra, Secretary Ministry of PD and SI, Mr. Amjad Mahmood, Additional Finance Secretary, private Board members Mr. Akbar Ayub Khan and Ms. Huma Ejaz Zaman, and Mr. Malik Ahmad Khan, CEO of P3A. Together, they deliberated on the transformative potential of the NUMS project, which is expected to unfold over 20 years, symbolizing a long-term vision for healthcare excellence both nationally and internationally.



Dr. Jehanzeb Khan stressed the critical role of PPPs in delivering projects that not only contribute to the country’s infrastructural growth but also prioritize the public’s interests. He highlighted P3A’s dedication to assisting implementing agencies in navigating the complexities of PPP arrangements, ensuring that projects are not only viable but also aligned with the broader objective of serving the public good.



The discussions also extended to the broader implications of PPPs in achieving sustainable infrastructure development and economic growth. By fostering innovation and efficiency in project implementation, PPPs are recognized as a key mechanism in addressing Pakistan’s evolving developmental needs.
