New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi, leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) and a Member of Indian Parliament, has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to reassess the Waqf (Amendment) Act. Owaisi argues that the legislation contradicts the Indian Constitution and promotes a Hindutva ideology on the Muslim community.

In a press conference reported by Kashmir Media Service, Owaisi urged the government to adhere to India’s constitutional principles and national values rather than any ideological biases. He criticized the government’s stance towards religious groups, contending that the law unfairly targets Muslims.

Owaisi questioned the rationale behind the Act. “How can something beneficial for Hindu and Sikh communities be detrimental to Muslims?” he asked, highlighting what he perceives as discriminatory practices within the legislation.

In response to the Act, Owaisi announced plans for a protest. A public meeting is scheduled for April 19 in Hyderabad, organized by the All India Muslim Personal Law Board, with its President, Khalid Saifullah Rahmani, presiding.

Owaisi noted that representatives from the Muslim Personal Law Boards of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, along with notable Muslim organizations from the states, would partake in the protest and address the attendees.

“They will inform the public through their speeches why this Waqf (Amendment) Act is not in favor of Waqf,” Owaisi stated. He also mentioned efforts to engage with members of the Waqf Committee, indicating that they might join the meeting if their schedules allow.
