Owaisi Accuses Modi Government of Distorting History in School Textbooks

New Delhi: Asaduddin Owaisi, MP from the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM), has voiced strong criticism against the Modi government for its decision to omit references to the Babri Masjid demolition and the 2002 Gujarat riots from educational textbooks. Owaisi argues that this move represents an ideological manipulation of school curricula to obscure significant historical events.

According to Kashmir Media Service, during a discussion in the Lok Sabha, Owaisi condemned the National Council of Educational Research and Training’s (NCERT) decision to revise the content related to these incidents. He questioned the implications of denying students knowledge about such pivotal events in Indian history, specifically the violence against Muslims in Gujarat.

Owaisi asserted that the revisions serve to distort the historical narrative and shield the BJP’s involvement in these events. He highlighted changes in the Class 12 political science textbooks, where the description of the Babri Masjid has been minimized and its historical context diluted.

The changes to the textbooks are seen by critics as part of a broader attempt by the BJP to promote a particular cultural and historical narrative that excludes significant episodes of communal violence, particularly those implicating the party in a negative light.
