Over-Speeding Identified as Leading Cause of Karachi Traffic Accidents

Karachi: Provincial Minister for Energy, Planning & Development, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, attributed over-speeding as the leading cause of the increasing traffic accidents in Karachi. Speaking at the Road Safety Conference organized by the Youth Parliament and the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Shah emphasized the need for public awareness, stronger law enforcement, and active youth involvement to address this pressing issue.

Shah highlighted the Sindh government’s legislative measures mandating hospitals to provide immediate aid to road accident victims. He stressed that individuals assisting injured persons should be treated respectfully and without intimidation. His remarks were made as he served as the Chief Guest at the Fifth Road Safety Conference.

Rizwan Jaffar, Chairman of the Youth Parliament, underscored the importance of the conference theme, expressing concern over the escalating number of road fatalities in Karachi. He advocated for the development of a local train system and enhancements in the city’s public transportation infrastructure.

Additional IG Police Karachi, Javed Alam Odho, pointed to the necessity of modern technology to improve urban traffic management. He noted ongoing efforts to optimize smart traffic signals, camera monitoring, and instant penalty systems.

Meanwhile, DIG Traffic Karachi, Peer Muhammad Shah, identified underage driving and traffic law violations as significant contributors to accidents. He proposed introducing traffic education in schools and colleges to mitigate these issues.

The conference concluded with the distribution of shields to participants who demonstrated outstanding performance, followed by a vote of thanks from Abdul Aleem Lashari, Secretary of the Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Government of Sindh.
