Islamabad: The National Assembly was informed on Monday that more than four hundred human smugglers have been apprehended in a recent government crackdown, with their properties and bank accounts seized. This move is part of a broader effort to combat human trafficking in the country.
According to a statement by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, the Minister for Information and Broadcasting, highlighted these developments during a question-and-answer session in the assembly. He emphasized the government’s firm stance against human smuggling and assured that those involved would face severe penalties.
The Minister further elaborated that new legislation has been enacted to classify human trafficking as a non-bailable offense. An anti-human trafficking cell has been activated, and an awareness campaign is underway to educate the public about the issue. The government’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking remains resolute.
In response to a separate query, Tarar revealed plans for a Safari Park in Islamabad, estimated to cost ten billion rupees. Currently, the project is in its planning stages.
Meanwhile, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar presented several legislative amendments to the assembly. The body passed The Prevention of Trafficking in Persons Amendment Bill, 2025, among others, which aim to increase penalties for human trafficking offenses.
The assembly also approved additional bills, including The Civil Courts Amendment Bill, 2024, and the Pakistan Coast Guards Amendment Bill, 2024, marking a busy legislative session focused on both human trafficking and broader legal reforms.
