New Delhi: On Monday, opposition lawmakers gathered on the Parliament premises to protest against what they claim is the Modi government’s misuse of central agencies like the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target political opponents.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the demonstration included prominent opposition leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Shashi Tharoor, and Sanjay Singh. The protesters aimed to draw attention to what they perceive as the government’s instrumental use of the ED and CBI to harass and arrest key figures from opposition parties, including Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, and several ministers from the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
The event was timed to coincide with the resumption of Parliament sessions following a two-day hiatus, with anticipated discussions on a variety of contentious issues, including the NEET controversy and proposed changes to criminal laws. Participants displayed placards and posters, voicing their dissent and demanding an end to the alleged exploitation of these agencies for political suppression. Following the protest, the leaders joined the ongoing parliamentary proceedings without incident.
