One More Arrest in Assam for Alleged Support of Pakistan, Says CM Sarma

Guwahati: Amid an ongoing crackdown on the Muslim community across India on charges that critics say are unfounded, another individual has been arrested in Assam for allegedly “defending” Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack.

This arrest was confirmed by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, according to Kashmir Media Service. The individual, identified as Amar Ali, was taken into custody in the Dhubri district.

Chief Minister Sarma noted that this brings the total number of arrests related to similar charges to 37. The series of arrests have sparked discussions and concerns regarding the treatment of the Muslim community in India.

The arrest follows a pattern of detentions across the country, raising questions about the legal processes involved and the evidence used to substantiate such charges. Details about the specific actions or statements that led to Ali’s arrest have not been disclosed.

Authorities have not responded to requests for further information about the charges or the ongoing investigations. The situation continues to develop as human rights organizations monitor the actions taken by law enforcement in Assam and other regions.
