Omar Abdullah to Address Concerns Over Transfers in IIOJK with Election Commission

Srinagar: Omar Abdullah, the vice president of the National Conference, announced plans to write to the Election Commission of India (ECI) regarding extensive administrative transfers in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) ahead of the upcoming assembly polls.

According to Kashmir Media Service announcement issued on 16 August 2024, during a press conference in Srinagar, Abdullah highlighted the unusual scale of the transfers, noting that such extensive changes in administration, including the shift of the Director General of Police who had recently established a political front, are unprecedented. He expressed concerns over the timing and impact of these transfers on the fairness of the forthcoming elections.

Abdullah also touched on political alliances, stating that there are no prospects for a pre-poll alliance with any parties that have previously opposed them around the Lok Sabha elections. He emphasized the readiness of his party to contest the elections independently but mentioned that the door remains open for potential alliances, with candidate announcements to follow any final decisions on this matter.
