OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir Advocates for Kashmiri Self-Determination


Kashmir: During the 50th Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, the OIC Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir reiterated its support for the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination. The group emphasized the need for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute, aligning with relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri populace.



According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Contact Group adopted a joint communique during their meeting, stressing that true peace and stability in South Asia hinge on resolving the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of its people and UN directives. Foreign Secretary Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi provided an update on the current situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), detailing India’s ongoing efforts to fortify its hold on the territory in defiance of international resolutions.



Qazi called on India to free all political prisoners, lift restrictions on banned political groups, and revoke the controversial measures enacted on August 5, 2019. He urged the international community and the OIC to play a proactive role in ensuring the enforcement of the UN Security Council’s resolutions concerning the region.
