Islamabad: The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Contact Group on Jammu and Kashmir convened on September 23, 2025, during the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, denouncing India’s conduct in the disputed region. The group scrutinized the political climate, security concerns, and worsening humanitarian situation in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK).
Presided over by OIC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Yousef M. Al-Dobeay, the assembly included representatives from Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Niger, Azerbaijan, and Kashmiri representatives.
Pakistan’s Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Syed Tariq Fatemi, expressed gratitude for the OIC’s backing of Kashmiri self-determination. He criticized India’s alleged efforts to solidify its control through oppressive regulations, suppression, and demographic alterations, highlighting increased human rights violations and detentions since August 2019. Fatemi reiterated Pakistan’s dedication to tranquility, emphasizing that regional stability hinges on resolving the Kashmir conflict through meaningful discussion.
He implored the OIC to pressure India into ceasing repressive actions, liberating political detainees, revoking harsh laws, and permitting Kashmiris to exercise their right to self-determination as per UN resolutions.
Contact Group members emphasized the Kashmir issue’s significance on the OIC’s agenda. They reaffirmed their support for the Kashmiri people’s pursuit of self-determination, aligning with UN resolutions. The group advocated for renewed endeavors towards a swift and peaceful resolution. A joint statement was officially endorsed during the session.
