Jeddah, The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has voiced its concerns regarding the Indian Supreme Court’s recent ruling that upheld the actions taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, which annulled the special status of Jammu and Kashmir on August 5, 2019.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the OIC General Secretariat issued a statement in Jeddah, reflecting on the decisions and resolutions of both the Islamic Summit and the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers relating to the Kashmir dispute. The statement emphasized the OIC’s consistent stance, urging a reversal of all illegal and unilateral measures taken by the Modi government since August 5, 2019. These measures have been aimed at altering the internationally-recognized disputed status of the occupied territory.
In its statement, the General Secretariat reaffirmed the OIC’s solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir in their struggle for the right to self-determination. The Secretariat also reiterated its call for the international community to intensify efforts to resolve the Kashmir dispute. This resolution is to be in line with the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, which have long formed the basis for international engagement on this issue.
