NWFC Forecasts Light Rain and Snow in Upper Regions

Islamabad, 17 Oct 2023:According to a weather update from the NWFC, westerly wave patterns are anticipated to influence the country’s weather in the coming days. While the majority of Pakistan is expected to experience dry conditions, isolated regions, particularly in the north, will likely see light rain, thunderstorms, and even snow over elevated areas.

For today, the forecast predicts dry weather across most parts of the country. Nevertheless, regions like upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir, and nearby areas can expect cloudy skies with potential light rain-thunderstorm activity. Some higher-altitude regions may also witness light snowfall.

Wednesday’s forecast indicates that most parts of Pakistan will again experience dry weather. However, the northern regions may experience cold conditions, especially during the night-time and early morning hours. There’s also a possibility of isolated rain-thunderstorms in central Balochistan.

Looking back at the weather conditions over the past 24 hours, there were rain-wind/thunderstorm activities in regions including Punjab, Kashmir, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and upper Sindh. Lahore in Punjab recorded significant rainfalls in various localities, with Gulshan Ravi noting the highest at 97mm. In Kashmir, Muzaffarabad recorded a rainfall of 48mm in the city and 46mm at the airport. Meanwhile, regions in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa like Malam Jabba reported 24mm of rain.

The report also provided today’s lowest recorded temperatures, with Leh marking the lowest at -01°C, closely followed by Kalam at 01°C.
