NUST Awards Honorary PhD to Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim


Islamabad: The National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) awarded an honorary Doctor of Philosophy degree to Malaysia’s Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, during a special convocation at the university’s main campus. The event, which included a keynote address by the Prime Minister, celebrated the deep intellectual and cultural ties between Malaysia and Pakistan.



According to Press Information Department, the ceremony took place on October 3, 2024, where Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed his appreciation for the recognition and the hospitality he received during his visit. The Prime Minister’s address highlighted the philosophy of Allama Iqbal and its relevance to modern challenges such as balanced development and individual well-being. He accepted the honorary degree on behalf of the people of Malaysia, emphasizing the symbolic connection fostered through academic and cultural exchange.



The convocation was attended by notable figures including Lt Gen (Retd) Engr Javed Mahmood Bukhari, Rector of NUST, who lauded the Prime Minister’s leadership and the potential for future collaboration between universities of the two nations. The event also saw the participation of various dignitaries from both countries, and was marked by a significant presence of students and academics. Additionally, it was announced that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s book, “SCRIPT for a Better Malaysia,” is being translated into Urdu, further bridging the cultural exchange between Malaysia and Pakistan.
