Lahore, The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) is executing a comprehensive maintenance program for its transmission lines and grid stations under the guidance of Managing Director Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan. Aimed at enhancing the reliability of the power transmission infrastructure, this initiative is crucial for ensuring an uninterrupted power supply during the holy month of Ramzan.
According to Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority, the maintenance activities include washing, cleaning, and replacing disc insulators among other necessary tasks across various NTDC formations. These efforts are particularly focused on the southern region, where shutdowns were availed on 500kV and 220kV transmission line circuits to facilitate the maintenance work.
During the shutdowns, the teams conducted cleaning and washing of insulators, tightening of hardware nuts/bolts, and replacement of disc insulators with RTV coated disc insulators across different phases. The statistics reveal a significant scope of work, with 73,493 disc insulators washed/cleaned at 459 locations and 9,804 disc insulators replaced at 55 locations. Additionally, more than 688 braces and 570 nuts and bolts were installed to ensure the robustness of the transmission infrastructure.
Specific attention was given to the 220kV Grid Station Jhampir-1, where two damaged disc insulator strings along with two healthy EMCO-Make disc insulator strings were replaced, enhancing the resilience of the grid station.
The maintenance program is being supervised by the General Manager Asset Management South, ensuring the work progresses smoothly and efficiently. Managing Director NTDC has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Transmission Line (Maintenance) Divisions and emphasized the importance of adhering to the maintenance schedule to meet the increased power demand during Ramzan.
This proactive maintenance strategy by NTDC highlights the organization’s commitment to reliable power distribution and its role in supporting the nation’s needs during significant religious observances.
