NTDC Secures Land for 600MW Solar Power Project in Muzaffargarh

Lahore, The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) has completed the acquisition of a substantial parcel of land totaling 2553 acres in Tehsil Chowk Sarwar Shaheed, District Muzaffargarh, for the construction of a 600MW Solar Power Project. This development marks a significant step towards increasing Pakistan’s reliance on renewable energy sources.

According to National Transmission and Despatch Company, the land acquisition collector announced the award of the said land under Section-11 of the Land Acquisition Act 1894 on March 16, 2024. The announcement was made in the presence of the Director General (Land) NTDC, Chief Engineer Project Delivery (North) NTDC Lahore, and other officials at the proposed site for the solar power project. The project is a key component of the Government of Pakistan’s initiative to reduce dependency on costly fuel-based power generation, aiming to bolster the country’s energy security and sustainability.

Further illustrating NTDC’s commitment to enhancing the renewable energy sector, the company is also in the process of acquiring land for two additional solar power projects in districts Layyah (1200 MW) and Jhang (600 MW). Collectively, these projects will inject 2400 MW of solar power into the national grid, significantly increasing the share of solar energy within Pakistan’s predominantly thermal-based energy mix.

The Managing Director of NTDC, Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan, commended the efforts of Engr. Sohail Mumtaz Bajwa, the Director General (Land), Engr. Anees Ahmad, the Chief Engineer Project Delivery (North) at NTDC Lahore, and their teams. He highlighted their continuous liaison with the local administration as a crucial factor in the timely completion of the land acquisition process. This initiative represents a critical advancement towards Pakistan’s goal of a more diversified and sustainable energy future.
