Lahore: In a recent clarification from the National Transmission and Despatch Company, a spokesman dismissed allegations of 12-hour load shedding in the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company service areas as inaccurate. The statement responded to claims circulated in the media, stressing that the power cuts were part of controlled load management under emergency protocols.
According to National Transmission and Despatch Company, the additional load management measures implemented over the weekend were in strict compliance with the NEPRA Grid Code 2023, aimed at addressing unforeseen power generation deficits. The spokesman highlighted that the reduced wind power output from the Gharo and Jhimpir wind clusters significantly impacted the power supply, necessitating brief, targeted outages to protect the network’s infrastructure.
The spokesman clarified that the actual load shedding experienced was far less severe than reported, with durations of 4 hours on Saturday and 6 hours on Sunday, affecting only select 11kV feeders. This adjustment was made to mitigate the impact of lower wind speeds that hampered the generation capabilities of the 36 wind farms connected to the 500 kV Jamshoro grid station.
The situation was promptly resolved by Sunday morning as wind speeds normalized, and power distribution was fully restored, ending the need for further load management in the affected areas.
