NTDC Enhances Power Capacity in Lahore with New Auto Transformer Installation

Lahore, The National Transmission and Despatch Company Limited (NTDC) has achieved a significant milestone by replacing and augmenting a 160 MVA Auto Transformer with a more potent 250 MVA, 220/132 kV unit at the 220 kV grid station in Ghakkar. This development is part of the broader System Constraints Removal Program funded by the World Bank under the National Transmission Modernization Project (NTMP-1). The new transformer, which was energized today, aims to bolster the power supply capacity to meet the growing demands of the GEPCO region, covering industrial, rural, and urban consumers.

According to National Transmission and Despatch Company, the augmentation of the new 250 MVA auto transformer at the Ghakkar station will significantly enhance system reliability and address the increasing load demand within the GEPCO area. This upgrade is expected to deliver tangible benefits to a wide range of consumers by ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply, crucial for economic and social development.

Managing Director of NTDC, Engr. Dr. Rana Abdul Jabbar Khan, lauded the Project Delivery (North) team for their dedication and efficient completion of this critical project. Their efforts reflect NTDC’s commitment to improving the national power infrastructure, a key component of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to fortify its energy sector against the challenges of capacity constraints and increasing demand.
