NTDC Completes 75 km Suki Kinari Transmission Line to Boost Hydropower Capacity

Lahore: The National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) has announced the completion of the 75 kilometer, 500 kV Suki Kinari Transmission Line, a significant development aimed at improving the availability of affordable and eco-friendly hydropower. This new infrastructure is designed to transfer 884 MW of electricity generated from the Suki Kinari Hydro Power project in Mansehra to the national grid.

According to National Transmission and Despatch Company, the Suki Kinari transmission line marks a critical step forward in enhancing the country’s power distribution network. Initiated in July 2021, the project faced numerous challenges, including harsh weather and difficult terrain, yet was completed on schedule due to accelerated efforts by the NTDC management. The successful completion of HiPot testing, which confirmed the line’s operational readiness, signifies a major victory for all involved stakeholders.

This project is expected to substantially benefit the power distribution areas of IESCO and GEPCO, by not only strengthening the transmission capabilities of NTDC but also supporting the broader goals of industrialization and employment creation within the region. The uninterrupted power supply facilitated by this line is anticipated to improve the socio-economic conditions across affected areas.

NTDC’s Deputy Managing Directors, Engr. Qaiser Khan, Engr. Muhammad Mustafa, and Engr. Muhammad Waseem Younas, have extended their congratulations to the project team for their dedication and hard work in achieving this milestone.
